Parking in Quepos by beaches

I read older forums where people worn about illegal parking vendors in M.A.? Is this still a problem?

Are there any nice beaches that offer parking outside of M.A.? Can anyone get to the beaches or are they private to the hotels?

All beaches in Costa Rica are public. There is no such thing as a private beach. There are "parking attendants" at some of the very popular areas. They are not illegal, but they are probably not official either - just watching cars for tips. Try to leave your car at the hotel or park where you can keep an eye on it. Don’t leave anything valuable in the car either way.

I don't remember any nice Quepos beaches, but there is the new marina and people tended to drive there, park, and relax. I would suggest a trip south towards Dominical, or north, towards Jaco to find some clean, sandy public beaches.

Have a good holiday.

Ask once you are in Quepos...there are some beaches well known by locals...most of the time casual visitors they have no idea of them...hard to see everything in a one day tour to Manuel Antonio!

The original poster may have written Quepos in the subject line, but if you read the content, or the forum in which it was posted, it is clear that he or she was referring to Manuel Antonio.

Thank you CanaTico for bringing that up...please excuse me, but in the body of the post I found "nice beaches that offer parking outside of M.A.?"...and since Quepos is outside of MA, and not much else for beaches around...

Well at least Avram has lots to review.

It really is not that complicated once you are here. If you drive to the public beaches outside of the park there is parking along the streets. This is not legal, even though official looking guys are blowing whistles and trying to get you to park, you are usually not even close to the park or best beaches yet. Just pass them and keep watching for guys that will direct you into dirt parking lots, or you can even park on some of the side streets (best if you rental car has full coverage, as the streets are narrow!), but parking in a designated area is much safer. There are also parking guys right at the entrance to the park, a short hike to the public beach from there. What is obnoxious are the guys trying to park you 1/4 mile short of the main area, preying on people that just don't know where to go, so avoid them. You will know you are in the right area, when you can blatantly see the beach right on the righthand side of the road. If you miss it, the road will automatically circle around and bring you back, so no biggy. Enjoy!

Thanks LivNLarge, great info, and clears up the mystery for travelers. It's hard to imagine what to expect until they are heading for a nice day at the beach. Then to have people try to force them into a side street, for change. Can make a tense trip.

The beaches south of Jaco such as Esterillos Oeste, Centro and Este are beautiful, remote, etc. But... as someone mentioned, leave nothing in the car and even less on the beach, as IT WILL BE STOLEN if you are not keeping a close eye on your stuff.
