Itinerary advice - January 2013

My girlfriend and I are planning an escape to Costa Rica in January - anticipating 9 nights.

We are hoping to build in a good mix of adventure and relaxation. Right now we've planned 2/3 nights in Arenal and 2 nights in Monteverde.

My question is what to do w/ the other 4 nights: Manuel Antonio/Quepos or Tamarindo/Flamingo, etc? Our initial thought was to make it easy and choose one of the All Inclusive resorts in Guanacaste...but we are not really enamored with any of them.

So, if you have any advice as to which option would best provide us with snorkeling/surfing, ample pool/beach-side cocktails, funky beach town dining/exploring and lush surroundings...we are all ears!

(If it helps, we have not yet determined what airport we'll fly into, or how we'll get around...waiting to pin down final destinations first)

Thanks in advance!

Dear Brett..

Accoring to your information...maybe you can do this...Arenal and Monteverde and MANUEL ANTONIO if you fly In and Out of SJO...

If you fly In and Out of LIR...you can do Rincon de la Vieja Volcano...check Hotel HAcienda Guachipelin...and then to one of the mnay Guanacaste fun beache like Tamarindo...Flamingo...Potero...very much everything you are looking for and more...

Or you can fly into LIR...drive to Arenal...Monteverde...Manuel Antonio and out of SJO..

Check the Tamarindo Diria Hotel or the Flamingo Beach Resort in Guanacaste. In Manuel Antonio check the Arenas del Mar Hotel

Your itinerary including Manuel Antonio definitely fits the travel style you describe above, so you would like funky little Manuel Antonio. If you fly into SJO (San Jose), then this is the best route to go, if you fly in to Liberia, it may be easier for you to stay up by Tamarindo, so that may be the deciding factor in the end. Wherever you end up...Enjoy!
