Where to stay!?

We have got 3 days/4 nights in the Mal Pais region. We are a bit unsure of where to stay, the options are Santa Teresa, Montezuma, Playa Carmen or Mal Pais.

Looking for a really nice chilled & relaxed vibe, want to do some surfing, chilling out on the beach and at some mellow beach cafes/bars.

Also hoping to explore the Cabo Balnco National Park on one of our days!

Any suggestions?

If you are going to surf, then Santa Teresa is the best place.

There is a lot to choose from as far as accommodation goes....depends on your budget.

If you check out www.nicoyazoom.com you will find a page that gives you price comparisons and amenities.

www.nicoyapeninsula.com is also a great site for maps and locations of hotels and restaurants.

MalPais is a confusing area to figure out if you haven't been (even if you have been) Mal Pais doesnt' have much going on so staying there is really really quiet. Santa Teresa is spread out and Play Carmen is in the middle of the two. Saying that, you can ride a bike from one to the other easily. Playa Carmen has the most store fronts you can walk to easily. Depends what you want.

Did you already go on your trip? If not...I highly recommend La Hacienda Tropical in Mal Pais. We LOVED it! Very laid back - feels like you're staying at someone's really cool house. Right across the street from the ocean, although you have to go down toward ST to surf. Personally we liked being away from all the hubbub of ST. It was nice and quiet at La Hacienda - our own little paradise!
