Latin Explore - Anyone work with this company before?

I've been in contact with a travel agency called "Latin Explore" but have not read any reviews on them. Has anyone on here worked with them before or have any comments?

Thanks!

I have never heard of them but I did go to the website and take a look at what they are offering.

For the "off the beaten path" tour which includes Tortuguero, they are quoting $1590 per person for the 10-day trip. It's not really 10 days because you fly out on the 10th day. And the first day, you spend the night in San Jose.

However, they seem to have chosen well - Tortuguero, Pacuara, Arenal and Monteverde. I am not familiar with the hotel in San Jose, but the hotels they use elsewhere are popular and seem fine to me.

So this breaks down to $176 a day which includes all lodging, transportation and some tours but does not include all meals. This seems OK to me. If you were careful, you could do better than this but if you are looking for the convenience of going with an organized tour, it's all right.

I would definitely not book with them unless you could find some reviews. They may look good but without good execution or customer service, it could be ugly.

There are other tour companies that are recommended here - including Caravan, Costa Rica Expeditions, GAP, Desafio and XploreCR, among others.

We went to Tortuguero three times last year. We live in Dallas, so it's pretty easy for us to get to Costa Rica (San Jose) non-stop. First night in SJO, we prefer the Grano de Oro hotel, in San Jose. Not the cheapest but, a class, older hotel, with excellent service and a great restaurant. In Tortuguero, we prefer The Manatus hotel. Only one, as we know of, with A/C and order from menu, all included. Again, very nice rooms and excellent restaurant and wonderful guided power craft wild life water tours(monkeys, crocks, birds of all sorts, lizards, etc) tours, into the park, with knowledgeable guides (who live there) included. For all of this, we use Horizontes travel agent' in San Jose. They know Costa Rica and you can actually speak with a knowledgeabe tour person, living in San Jose, who has been to Tortuguero, and knows the properties she or he is recommending. They will tailor the tour to your wants, needs, and budget without pressure. We have never been disappionted and have found dealing with a "local tour operator" has many advantages over someone else, who maybe has never ever even been to the country; no unpleasant surprises.
