Weather in High Season

First time visiting Costa Rica from Dec21-Jan 4 2013. We are interested in checking out the Carribiean side of the country for about 5 days to do some relaxing on the beach and exploring. We have lots of adventure planned on the Pacific coast and Central area in the days before, and are planning on rafting the Pacuare on the way there. I am wondering if we can expect this region to be less crowded than the Pacific side even at this time of the year and what will the weather be like? We come from somewhere cold and snowy so a little sunshine would be great :)

The Pacuare raft/shuttle is a fabulous way to get to the Caribbean. I've done it more than once just because it is so stinkin' fun!! Well, Dec/Jan are our "green season" which means expect some rain, but even our rain is welcome. Only the rainiest of days are absent sun, and even if the sun is hiding behind clouds, it is still 80 degrees so you will definitely thaw out from that Edmonton chill!

You will find the Caribbean FAR less populated and tourist crowded than the Pacific... and if you do find it too crowded, walk a hundred meters down the beach... you'll probably be alone. At the same time, there are so many great activities if you choose; zip-lines, surfing, kayaking, waterfalls, horseback riding, fishing... the list goes on. If you're crazy about furry things, be sure to fit in the Jaguar Center, and no trip to the Caribe Sur is complete without visiting some of our chocolate farms.

Gecko Trails Adventures is good for booking your trips and making recommendations based on weather, time, travel if you need help. Enjoy your time in this beautiful country, see you in the Caribe Sur!!

Janick2010 summed it up perfectly. May have a look at the weather map on Puerto Viejo Satellite: www.puertoviejosatellite.com/weather.php Though I lately found that the weather is not necessary following the normal seasons anymore...

The Caribbean is for sure less crowded than most parts of the Pacific - regardless what time of the year!

The Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica will be way less developed and wild than most of the Pacific Coast, as far as weather, I have been there when we had beautiful weather and also when it has rained lots, no telling what Mother Nature will send. Just make sure you book your lodging ahead of time, there is limited lodging options, and the best places get booked fast.
