We have been visiting Costa Rica in March each year and have become good friends with Danny Lewis Hylton, known as "Chombo". Danny is very proud of his new van, and is a very safe driver. This year, he took us to BriBri for the Medicinal and Chocolate tour from the Lopez family at Watsi. We started the tour by having the opportunity to purchase their original, beautiful art pieces. We later learned on our tour that the colors they paint with with are created from various plants, leaves and seeds from the forest, in addition to various medicinal uses. The "Chocolate Lady" also showed us the entire process of making chocolate, from the cacao plant, to the different stages of drying the seeds. She invited us into her "kitchen" where she and Danny went about making the chocolate, and we ended our tour with drinking a cup of hot chocolate! We continued our tour to a nearby waterfall, and we cooled off in the water, watching several young boys jumping in the bottoms of the falls and having a great time! Danny brought fresh fruit and coconut water for us to enjoy before we headed back to Puerto Viejo at the end of the day.
Danny took us to "The Point" on Black Beach a couple times, where we enjoyed a meal and a couple beers. We also had the amazing Limon Pie together at Lydia's Place in town! At the end of our vacation, Danny drove us back to San Jose. I would recommend Danny very highly- he's at the top of our list, and he's a lot of fun to be with- a good man!
