We are visiting Puerto Viejo for 6 days in Decemeber.
We will be coming from Bocas, Panama then on December 26th, we will be going to Boquete, Panama. What would be the best way for us to get from Puerto Viejo to Boquete? Is public bus a good option? Will there be any issues traveling on the day after Christmas? Thanks advance for your suggestions.

The best way to get to Boquette is to return to Bocas, fly to David and take a bus from there.
If would be much wiser to rearrange your trip Panama City - Boquette - Bocas - Puerto Viejo - San Jose or the reverse.
The public bus service in Costa Rica will be running normally on the 26th. The only day it doesn't is Good Friday.
Actually you can't fly on Air Panama from Bocas to David. It only goes to PC and Costa Rica. It's a strange thing. We had to drive from Boquete to Almirante to get to Bocas. The scenery is beautiful however so it wasn't that much of a hardship.
Is posible but a long day on the bus. Take the earliest bus to Sixaola, cross the border, then take bus from there to Boquete via David, 7 or eight hours.
Thank you all for your inputs. I think we'll try to bus route as Cubanon suggested. Is border crossing relatively simple? Do we need any other documents other than our passports(USA)? I read postings about proof of returning bus tickets but not sure if that is what we will need since we will be crossing the border from Bocas to PV then crossing back few days later.

Make sure that beside your passports, you also have your etickets to proof you are leaving Panama. the border crossing is pretty easy, You can also use

caribeshuttle.com looks like a good option for us to go from Bocas to PV. How long in advance do we need to make reservation to secure seats? We will be in Bocas for 5 days and wonder if we could buy tickets when we get to Bocas.
Contact them directly, they have limited room on van, but I think you should be ok.
