 Renting mopeds in PV

When we are in PV in August, the four of us are thinking of renting mopeds for the day or perhaps a couple of days to tour around all of the surrounding area. Can anyone recommend a good shop to rent them from? I heard of a shop that starts with an "S" but I cannot remember the full name. How much would two mopeds for the day be? For a two day rental? Is it safe to drive on them in this area? At night? Helmets required? Any info is much appreciated. Thanks Jill

Thanks for your response....the waterfalls and bri bri???? Are those places in PV? If so, how long to scooter there from Manzanillo and where can you get gas? Will a tank of gas last for quite some time? How often are you filling up? Thanks Jill

Well I love riding my scooter, it's more like surfing and just a lot more fun than trying to maneuver potholes in a car. In fact, I'm selling my car and don't plan on getting another one (it's the Mitsu on display at the bus stop in PV). Plus, they are paving the road, and are now working on the section in Playa Chiquita, so the road's in better shape than it's been for years.

Helmets are required by law. If the tránsitos (traffic cops) are out (and they frequently are, parked just before Beach Break in Cocles), they'll give you a ticket for not wearing one.

At night: I ride my scooter at night all the time, never had any problems at all - the head and tail lights make all the difference. I'd definitely be more careful on a bike at night, the visibility on the road is not good. If you bike, I'd highly recommend that you wear one of those LED headlamps and a strobing red reflector behind. Be visible!
