Selva Verde and Tortuguero

We are planning for 4 nights of our 14 night vacation in Costa Rica. We are considering doing either:

1. the tour package to Tortuguero (perhaps Evergreen Lodge) where we could stay for 4 nights

and do the canal trips, tour of village and relax around the property and pool or

2. the tour package that includes 2 nights in Tortuguero and follow that up with the tour package for 2 nights staying at Selva Verde Lodge in Sarapiqui.

Option 2 is a little more expensive and requires us to move after 2 nights in Tortuguero. We will apprecaite receiving comments and advice regarding these options. I'll also post this on the Tortuguero page.

Tour of the village is really an hour affair, walking the main (and only) village street twice from end to end. Don't expect too much of it. Three full days in Tortuguero might be a little too many but you might love the totally different experience that Tortuguero NP is offering. On the other side Selva Verde and Sarapiqui are well known for its wildlife and specially birding oportunities.

I'd definitely do the combo. We stayed two nights in Tortuguero, and that was perfect for us. We toured the canals, saw wildlife, did the nighttime turtle hike and pretty much everything we wanted to. There's not much to the town itself. Selva Verde is a great little spot; we saw howlers, toucans, a kinkajou, and a coral snake while we were hiking there. They have a great little open air restaurant right on the river that serves yummy wood fired pizzas and good drinks.
