Restaurants in Santa Cruz

Can you walk to any restaurants from the JW Marriott Guanacaste or are you basically stuck eating at the on-site restaurants?

It is possible to walk to Lola's in Avellanas. The hotel people will tell you it's only about 30 min but it's at least an hour. Apart from that, you're stuck. The JWM does have a shuttle several times daily for $5 pp each way to go into Tamarindo. A taxi is about $25. You'll save a lot of $$ by going to Tamarindo to eat.

Lola's closes at 5pm, or it did when we were there. We met several groups of people who ate there for an early lunch and then an early dinner as the quality and price is better than anything at the JW.

The JW will also close some of their on-site restaurants for tour and other groups, so your options shrink even further.

Tamarindo has some great restaurants so you won't go hungry if you can get there. Even though we had a car, it was a drag on some nights needing to drive into town to find food rather than chill at the resort or walk to a local restaurant.

Dragonfly, nimba (sp?) and Baula were all fantastic and worth the trek.
