best all-inclusive

Hi-My wife and i have done a lot of traveling but have never done an AI. We want to finally spoil ourselves and stay at a 4 or 5 star place. We were considering the Riu Palace, however, we don't like their local reputation. Any suggestions?

Thank you

The Westin Playa Conchal is considered by most to be the best AI in the country. Here are some others:

Occidental Grand Papagayo - 160 rooms of various kinds, spread out

Occidental Allegro Papagayo

Hilton Papagayo - 202 rooms

Villas Sol - Rooms or condos or villas in Playa Hermosa

Barcelo Langosta - 198 rooms, great reviews

Capitan Suizo - in Tamarindo, offers an all-inclusive option, walking distance to the center of Tamarindo.

You are right to avoid the RIU.

Personally like Barcelo Tambor, close to St Therese and Montezuma. Only problem is that its 4 1/2 hr bus ferry transfer from San Jose airport but you can fly in with Sansa. Airstrip is 2 minutes from the resort. Classified as a 4 star. As of Feb 2013 it was totally renovated after last years earth quake where they had considerable damage. Been there 6 times. The flight in is approx 25 minutes with an outstanding view. Landing/takeoff is across the water.

I am not familiar with all of them but the Weston is exactly what you are looking for. Bear in mind that you do not have to stay there for your entire vacation like some all-inclusive packages limit you to. You could do some adventure/nature stuff first and then relax the last few days.

Westin is considered, almost without exception, the best AI in Costa Rica.

That said, you're still wasting your money as there are much better AI's in much better suited places than Costa Rica. Maybe an AI cruise even?

Thank you for all your input, after the first few posts, we were hooked on the Hilton. We have booked our trip there for November. This forum is wonderful. I may be back to ask more questions and promise a trip report when we come back. Thanks again.

What would be a good all inclusive resort that some of you listed for young people (Mid 20's) in Costa Rica?

For young people who want privacy, or anyone who loves the All Inclusive experience, but not the crowds); you just can't beat this place. They only accommodate one group or couple at a time. Th(e private chef prepares outstanding meals, everything (including alcohol of your choosing), is unlimited, and it is set in the middle of the most beautiful little rain forest you could ever imagine. In the Manual Antoni area

It really like no other place you have ever been. We were so happy we found it.
