Is there a cash machine there? Is there one at the Liberia airport?
We just got back from Playa Conchal last night. Cash machines. Airport - probably, but honestly I didn't notice. there's one at the resort (lobby), but my traveling companion said he was only able to get $40 from it at a time. Not good if you need more and are paying fees to use (likely you are). When we went to Tamarindo for the day I used a cash machine there. I was allowed to select my amount, and whether US or colones. Since they all seem to take US, I withdrew US and that's all I used the whole trip. Call you bank before you leave to check on the ATM fees for international. Also - don't bring travelers checks. I hear they are impossible to use there. Better off with smaller bills, 1, 5, 10...but you can change for smaller bills at thew resort. Just don't start with larger than 50. They seem to have issues with big bills!
Enjoy you trip!
Thanks so much for the information. So did you enjoy the Playa Conchal? I hear it is very nice. We will be there the beginning of May.
There is also a ATM just outside the resort, across the street from the guard station. I used US cash card and you could select between USD and CRC currency.
Thanks for the info. Much appreciated!!
We are going to be at the Paradisus in June and I'm trying to figure out currency. From this post it sounds like all we will need is US???
I did hear that you should have some local currency for tips, taxis etc.
We just got back from a two week vacation at the Paradisus Playa Conchal. Seven years ago we purchased a time share there. It took us about three years to get back to that hotel. Our last trip was in 2001. The place is much better. The last time we were there they discourage guest from leaving the complex.
Brasalito is a beautiful village with great beaches, and restaurants. Make sure you try the Le Jardin, El Forno and the Happy Snapper. Check out the hotel Brasalito in the evenings. They have awesome drinks and desert. Outside at the beach there is a massage clinic. Ask for Omar. The best theraputic message I've ever had.
