5 days in Costa Rica modest but not minimal budget

Hello! My boyfriend and I are spending 5 days in Costa Rica! Flying into San Jose, but would love to stay on the beach and travel out from there. We were thinking of renting a jeep with gps and visiting the Volcan Arenal, doing some snorkeling and some fishing. We're not exactly roughing it, but don't want to spend a fortune, either! Any advice?

There are lots of really good places that are fairly economical in Arenal and Manuel Antonio (MA is a little more expensive). Split your days between La Fortuna (Arenal Volcano) and Manuel Antonio. YYou could rent a car, but after insurance coverage, it can get a little pricy. You could also use the Interbus... it's a shuttle service that'll drive you all over Costa Rica for about $30 per person. They can take you to Arenal/La Fortuna and then to Manuel Antonio.

We stayed in Hotel La Pradera in La Fortuna... great place, not too expensive, great free breakfast, and an easy $3 taxi ride to downtown from here. Centrally located to downtown, volcano and hot springs.

In Manuel Antonio, we stayed at Hotel Tres Banderas, great place with a bar and pool. We took the 75 cent bus to the Manuel Antonio beach and to the City of Quepos.
