One more decision

Almost finished planning our trip to Costa Rica in early March.

The last portion seems more complicated. We have four days left before catching our flight back home from Liberia.

So I have been reading a lot of info in the Guanacaste forum but there are too many places and they all sound the same to me.

Not looking for surfing (not good enough) and not looking for diving (will have done that in Drake Bay). Don't mind not doing too much but it would be nice to do some excursions from there (not lying on the beach all day). Hope to have some good restaurants close by and some place to walk around in the evening. Would rather not rent a car for this part of the trip. Hopefully there is transportation to and from the airport.

Any suggestions?

Playas del Coco is about 20-30 minutes from LIR airport. Excursions possible to four National Parks: Rincon de la Vieja, Santa Rosa, Palo Verde and Tenorio. You can drive yourself to any of these locations or go with an organized tour.

Example: http://www.guachipelin.com/one-day-pass.html

There is a great boat trip through Palo Verde National Park - www.paloverdeboattour.com

Fantastic hike in the Tenorio National Park to the blue Rio Celeste and its huge waterfall.

It's easy to get a taxi to the airport from Playas del Coco.

Another location would be Tamarindo. It's further away from the airport and further away from the excursions mentioned, a bit larger than Playas del Coco and with more than 60 restaurants.

Maybe staying in the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano area, this National Park is the most visited in Guanacaste because it is an active volcano. there are many hotel options there. You can do 2 nights there and maybe 2 nights on the beach, maybe Coco or Hermosa, which is close to the airport.
