Arenal Valley - boutique hotel advice

In the process of planning a trip to the arenal valley region for august 2014 and was hoping for some hotel advice. Last year we stayed in smaller "boutique" hotels on a trip to botswana. these accommodated around 20 people but were still high end, and offered a more intimate atmosphere, and were hoping to find the same idea in Costa Rica.

We really like what is offered at the Springs in terms of activities such as zip lining, rappelling down a waterfall and the hanging bridges. and were hoping to find a similar hotel but on the smaller scale.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your best bet is to check under B&B/Inns or Vacation Rentals under the TripAdvisor tab...you'll get that intimate place you're looking for. :-) tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g309226-La_Fortuna_de…

You might like the Lost Iguana or Nayara; we've stayed at both of those and enjoyed them. Those activities aren't actually offered at The Springs resort; they just book them for you like any hotel would do. You can do ziplining, Hanging Bridges, waterfall rappelling, etc. no matter where you stay. We've also stayed at The Springs and loved it. Their Club Rio is fantastic.

Nayara is a bit smaller than The Springs, but not really that much in terms of total room count. Still, it is much more intimate in feel and scale. Those are the two top of the top-end hotels in the Arenal area, with Tabacon also being a very good luxury option with unique and spectacular hot springs. There's plenty of smaller boutique options not that high end, like Silencio del Campo...

Check out Centaura Cost Rica. Its a private farm with only two onsite luxury villas. Read my review, I just returned from my 2nd stay there in 3 months. The owner asks you what you want to do and makes suggestions then sends you with an English speaking guide for the adventure of a lifetime. From the farm we rode ATV's ,Rode horses , went ziplining , hiked rio celeste, visited hot springs...
