I would bypass both and go to Arenal Nayara. It's one of the nicest boutique hotels in Costa Rica.

Arenal Nayara is booked unfortunately....if it was between the other two who would you pick? We keep reading about the food being bad at Tabacon...any thoughts on this?

Out of the two, I would choose Tabacon. That said, I would not go with their lower priced rooms, which are a little dated and dark. The suites are worth the extra money. If you have a rental car, you can drive to another restaurant for lunch and dinner.
