NASCAR Newbie needs help!

I was really disappointed to find that the Talladega frum is all but empty. (I have posted this on the Alabama forum as well).

We live in Ottawa, Canada and I bought my husband his dream present for his birthday in January - tickets to a NASCAR race. We are both NASCAR newbies....

Any advice - We are attending the October 5-7 Craftsman and Nextel races....We bought a package, so we don't have to worry about transport to the track. I am looking for info about being at the track - are those ear phones really necessary? Is a radio really needed? Are drinks, food, etc... really expensive? Can you bring your own onto the property?

I saw a promotion for a Pit Tour Experience - our anniversary is right around the time of the race, so I was thinking about it....Do you have any knowledge of this? Is it worht $ 150.00 per person extra?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to DEGA baby!!!

Food and drinks...this can get very expensive...go to the tracks website and they can tell you what you can and cannot bring in....basically it's no glass bottles...we each bring in a clear plastic backpack and a 6-pack cooler. In the backpack is...SUNSCREEN!!! Scanner, camera, sunscreen, waterbottles, handiwipes snacks, sandwiches, sunscreen, ect......

Depending on where you sit and how sensitive your ears are if you need the earplugs or not. I sit three rows from the top and the noise doesn't bother me at all.

I have never done the Pit tour Experience so I'm sorry I can't help you there...

Have a great time!!

whats included in the pit tour thing? IF you like a lot of nudity, and drunks, the pits is your place to find them. I personally dont like the pits, i am an ex budweiser wife, and i did not like them. I won a package one year from food world and i had the best experience of my life, it was where the HOSPITALLY tents are, there was four star cheifs there, and happy hour, if thats in it, thats worth it, cause i got to sit in the tent with A/C and watch the race from there, and went out on occasion to hear the LOUD roar of the cars!

So if that tent and food is included, go for it, if not save your money on that part.

Personally i would rather see it on tv and then i can see it better, but thats me. I have done both.

So your in from Canada, hope you have a good time. And remember Al has a lot more to offer than that race track, sorry but I certainly dont ever want to be judged by what you see going on there representing all of us.

Will you be staying locally? If so what city? Or just near the race track? We have a great place called cheaha mountain that is nice for the outdoors here. And shopping in bham and anniston can be done at malls, but the rest of us have the wal mart supercenter strip malls....lol. There is not much to do in dega in town in the middle of the am hours, the other day i got back from a trip to the casino on the bus, and at 4 am the only thing i saw open was the huddle house in town. Even the gas stations, unless they are near the interstate are few and far betwen after ten at night it seems to open around here anymore.

I am just afraid you might experiece something i have a few times in my life....culture shock. lol.

have a good time and if you can get in those tents with the food and the booze you will...i can attest to that.
