what to send relatives

We have American relatives living in Shanghai. What items can we mail to them that they would not be able to find in China?

Be careful with this, when going by mail, they will have to pay duty when it reaches them, and it will be far more expensive than the item. We always send American Express gift cards by mail if we have to send anything. If they want a nice meal , they can use it at the Ritz or the Marriott., the Hyatt. Sometimes, you can send them things to their office, if their office will pay the duty. Anymore, you can get just about everything you want in Shanghai, the City Shopper and Carfour now carry most foreign foods, and you adjust when you get there. No more fritos, but they have other things.

Nicinchic is correct, if someone can hand carry in a gift that is a diferent matter.

Treats like candy items, unique cooking spices from their local area.

Everything else is made and can be bought in China. The time to be inspected and the charges levied, make mail into China a waste of time.
