There are several options. Look into Nanjing, just an hour away and there are a lot of trains to chose from. Once in Nanjing, the subway is attached to the train station making it easy to get around.

Then go to Hungzhou is a better option: the train rider is not too short and the beautiful lake, garden, and hills right in the middle of the city makes sightseeing very easy.

As said above, it depends on your interests.

For Nanjing, look at items 1 through 12 here: tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g294220-Activiti…

Main focus for a G train ride i feel that the best option is

1) G train to Suzhou. It takes only about half hour to reach. Here you can combine to go Tongli by cab or bus with another 40 mins drive. If not you can stay in Suzhou.Attractions like the Lingering gardens,Humble administartors garden,Shangtang street ,Silk museum and take in some local snacks and food like the Dongpo rou etc.

2)G train to Hangzhou. Its about 1 hour ride. Here there are many places to see like the Xihu,Longjing tea plantations,Feilaifeng pagoda,Lingying temple etc.

3)Nanjing but it is about 11/2 to 2 hour ride by G trains. Here you can get to see the main attractions like thre SunYatsen mausoleum,Nanjing wall,Xiaoling mausoleum,Qinhuai river,Memorial hall of the japanese aggressions and atrocities/victims etc.

4)Lastly you can choose Wuxi and its very near about 20 mins by G trains. In Wuxi you can spend half a day at the Lingshan temple. If not you can get to the Three kingdoms state,Taihu lake,Plum garden or the Li garden.

My order of preferences are from top to down. All can be done easily by the G trains and as a day trips its still refreshing!

Thanks a lot everyone. I think it'll be either Hanghzhou or Nanjing cause the train is longer

Remember that there are 2 different time duration for Shanghai to Nanjing Gtrains. It is 11/2 hour with less and few stops and the other 2 hours with more stops at smaller cities and also stop at Suzhou.
