I plan on going to XiTang and TongLi from shanghai next week but need updated transportation methods. I heard it is better to go to Tongli on a tour but I normally don't like tours and would to get there on my own. It would be great if time,cost, and location of transportation is given. Thanks in advance!

I have reasonably detailed information on Xitang transport, on my VirtualTourist Xitang Transport travel page: members.virtualtourist.com/m/1d57/f2e9f/9/

For Tongli, I would suggest that you take a D train to Suzhou (36-42 mins, 26 RMB for 2nd-class each way) then a bus (40-45 mins, 7 RMB) or a taxi (30-40 mins, around 80 RMB) to Tongli.
