In general, there are 3-4 exits for each station. Some major stations like People Square has 12 exits or Xujiahui has 14 exits. If you misses the right exit, be ready for a long walk....

I read the above some where on the net.

My wife and I will be staying at Radisson New World Shanghai right opposite People's Park.

Which exit do I take to be closest to the hotel?

Thanks

The hotel is located near the major intersection of that area. If you take subway line 2, you can't be too far away from it.

Exit 7,8 & 12 are closer. Exit 9, 10, 11 are further and further away.

It can be much easier to find your hotel (UFO shape top) on the gound than to find a specific exit undergound. Don't be afraid to get out even if you are at Exit 20.

IIRC, the nearest is exit no.7. There's a closer exit that goes into the shopping centre that's "attached" to the hotel, but then you might get lost in the mall itself, so I don't usually recommend it for first-time travellers.
