Snorkeling at Kadvu

I have been looking at reviews of various hotel/resorts on Kadavu. I have observed that most everyone mentions how great the diving is, but almost no one mentions snorkeling at all. I am drawing the conclusion that perhaps Kadavu is not a great destination for snorkeling as compared to other places in Fiji. Is this accurate or am I reading too much into this? If the latter, what resort would you recommend with lots of good/great snorkeling sites nearby and readily accesible?

Hi

We stayed at Waisalima Beach Resort my husband dives. They has som e areas of reef off the beach but I used to go out with the divers and snorkel the top of the reefs where the dove and another occasion I was dropped off at a beach on Ono island where the snorkelling was unreal amazing soft coral like I had never seen.

The resort is basic but athe bed was comfortable, the food good land the staff wonderful. Maybe you could email other resorts and

ask them about the snorkelling most are happy to answer any questions.

I've only snorkeled Ono Island as well-it was outstanding.

I suggest the reason you hear little is that most people go there to dive as mentioned.

I wouldn't recommend Dive Kadavu-poor location for snorkeling/dodgy food and unsavory owner.

its interesting to read that 1 year after posting a critical review, other travellers are also noticing poor food and cranky live-in owners.. pity nothing seems to have changed.. stay there at your own risk

i seriously think swanns is just someone trying to discredit dive kadavu....dive kadavu like any organizations has its flaws....though not to the extent of swanns comments!!!!

snorkelling in dive kadavu is just right there on the beach....convenient and a lot to see.the reef actually starts just about a meter or 2 from the shoreline.clear blue waters around which offers high visibility.

I agree with Sandfly regarding Swans comments about Dive Kadavu. He seems to have an axe to grind. I just stayed at Dive Kadavu and had good food & drink, no one was cranky and the place has been improved everytime I have stayed there (maybe only 20 nights total) since I first visited in 2001. My most recent stay was in October, 2007.

I just read my own post and I made a huge error. I have stayed at Matana Beach Resort/Dive Kadavu on about 20 separate trips, ranging from 2 nights to 2 weeks each time. I goofed in my remark about staying there only about 20 nights.
