Lunch in the area of the visitor center

Can anyone recommend a local place to have lunch near the visitor center or capitol?

The Visitor Center is in the immediate vicinity of the Downtown Entertainment District. There is where you'll find the best selection of restaurants of all kinds. Central is up-scale southern gourmet but not excessively expensive. Saza's has Good pizza and Italian cuisine. The Deli has really good sandwiches. Jalapeno's is standarnd "American" Mexican food. Wintzel's Oyster House is good for seafood. Will of these are a stone's- throw from each other. The only place that comes to mind near the Capitol is just down the hill on the left. Chris's Hotdogs is a Montgomery tradition and has been there since 1917. Enjoy Montgomery!

As mentioned above, the entertainment district is the place to go for food. I am partial to Wintzel's Oyster House. It is on the corner ground floor of the Renaissance Hotel building. They offer good Gulf seafood at a reasonable price. The Riverfront Walk is near and a good place to walk off the calories wherever you choose to eat.

Thanks for the input. I've had two recommendations for Wentzel's, so we will probably go there, as we both love seafood.

Wasabi Japanese Cuisine is new to The Alley. 117 Coosa Street next to Jalapenos and Central. They have hibachi and sushi, as well as a few other Asian dishes that are definitely worth checking out. Good lunch options and very pretty inside.

If you like messy down home hot dogs where the locals go, be sure to visit Chris's Hotdogs. It is on the right as you travel toward the Capitol from the fountain on Dexter Avenue. You won't be sorry.
