Trip to the Taj Mahal from Goa

Hey all,

Just wondered if anyone could give us some advice on the best way to book/organise a trip from Goa to the Taj Mahal (either December 2011 or January 2012).

Should we book when in Goa or before getting there?

We've been told that getting a train is a real adventure - but what kind of adventure are we talking about? Any ideas?

Many thanks

xx

There are lots of travel agents in Goa and it may be cheaper to book from there. If you search Taj Mahal on this forum you will find posts from lots of people who organised it themselves.

The train will take 24 hours plus one way, so it depends how much adventure you want !!

Good luck.

I would suggest you fly to Delhi from Goa, and take the Shatabdi Express from Delhi to Agra if you want a train ride. The ride is much shorter, and you will have the Indian train experience without too much of strain.

You can book air as well as rail tickets at www.cleartrip.com

As you've not sorted your flights to Goa out yet why don't you fly into Delhi from the Uk and do the Taj first? Loads of choices for Airline can recommend Jet had good flights with them in December also there's Kingfisher and Air India (not the greatest but can be the cheapest) and I think BA has direct flights to Dehli too.

Dec/Jan is a lot colder in Dehli than Goa and is more prone to fog

Hi SCSNAX, I'll PM you with our trip details to give you an Idea. The only problem with going in December or January is it's the fog season in Delhi and flights and trains are often delayed by as much as 12hrs. February would be a better option. No need to book too early a month before you go should be fine if you DIY it and it will cost less than half what the travel agents want. It is a trip that's well worth doing, we've done it twice. If you have an extra couple of days to spare you could do the Golden Triange. Have fun .

Dec and Jan. are the months when few days are foggy in North India and dislocation in Train and air services very common. You have to come via Delhi to see the Taj at Agra. You can travel by car or by train reach Agra. You can organise yourself or through any agent. Plan an overnight stay in Agra to see other monuments or in case of delay you have an option to see it other day. Taj is closed on Friday so plan accordingly.

Option 1. fly from goa to delhi. 2.30mins journey. stay in delhi. next early morning at 7am take a cab from delhi and go to agra.cab will cost you 120$. visit taj mahal.you will come back to delhi hotel late night. next morning take flight back to goa. good hotel for a night stay should be 100$ per night. if you book your flight 30 days before, flight from goa to delhi n return will be approx 200$ per head.Note: if you take cab to agra dont let him show you any showroom or restaurants. you choose the restaurant to stop for. delhi to agra time by taxi is 3.30mins.

2nd option: Goa to Agra by train, its on all weekdays. price will be approx 100$ per head. it will take 27hrs. one night you can stay in Agra see taj mahal and next day back in train. the train tickets you can book on your own online.
