By far the best food is The Oasis Cafe/German Bakery a large menu, Goan, Indian, Tandoori, Chinese, Thai, European also Veg, very good food and cheap but not a posh place
Starco and Sea Queen also good and in the village, Bean me up (Veg) and Trattoria Fotonica (Italian) on the edge of the village
jewellery stores I would look around Ajunia but think you would do a lot better in Calangute
Yoga, meditation no problem
Is there watersports, I hope not but have not been to the beach for a couple of years, have been using little Vagator but Calangute/Baga has more than enough
Hi Anjuna doesnt have as many restaurants off the beach but I believe there a few worth visiting. Italian place by the name of Sublime (supposed to be nice if a little pricey) and generally requires reservations. Also the food at Shore Bar and Sunset Bar on the beach itself is great! German Bakery too is good provided the weather is good coz otherwise he gets pretty muggy and hot being inland.
Not too far from Anjuna is a place called Mango Grove - closer to Vagator though.
Other than that havent discovered any other places in that area...
I would agree with the above - I have stayed in the Sunset bar, The Tamarind, and The Orange House.
On each: The Sunset is perfectly located on Anjuna beach with great food (espexcially their freshly caught sea food) and an extremely friendly family who will cater for your needs. The sunsets there are amaxing and the perfect end to a day. The accomodation itself is very basic with hard beds and no air con. That said I didn't tend to use my room much so it was no biggie - also the price was very good at around 450 rupees per evening for a twin room.
The Tamarind is a more "formal" hotel/guest house affair. Prices are a bit higher - I didn't pay the internet rate but negotitated directly with the owner on a room which proved a lot cheaper. they have a pool and also air conditioned rooms. A lot of these are based around the pool area and tend to be chalet type affairs. Because I went directly I was able to get one the rooms within the main building which was lovely. Seperate wash room, shower etc (whcih all have) and my own private balcony. Food was good if a touch expensive. Also not centrally located to the beach but more in the jungle - a good hotel nonetheless.
The Orange house is a small "hostel" type affair with very basic amenities - a bed, a fridge and a washroom. One downside was that a fellow guest was robbed while I was there - so make sure you lock up your room and valuables. That said it was very clean and the owners were great with it's own private balcony. A word of warning though - do not leave your doors open at night as you will be infiltrated with bugs (silly me!).
What I did find was that the best way to do things was to initially book into a hotel for one or two nights and then do some shopping around the other hotels to negotiate a rate. Local taxi drivers will be keen to find you one as they get a "referral fee". Out of the three - Tamarind for a bit more luxury and the Sunset for the ambience - enjoy :o)!
Also I would agree - Sublime is very worthwhile for a visit for a spanking meal.
been going for a few years now and our personel favourites are the sunset, run by a great family as someone said earlier and the sublime which is a little more expensive but supurb (you generally need to book). if you need english food gleneagles is good although it has changed hands this year but apparently they still have the same cooks
