Finding a dress maker in Mumbai

Do anyone know a really good steamstress based in Mumbai who would be able to copy a Western style Wedding Dress from a picture?

Also, is it possible to buy plain ivory white satins and chiffon there?

I'm staying in Mumbai for a week from the 16th Feb.

Has anyone done this before?

Thanks so much

Hi Clare

I cant recommend any personally. what is your budget ?

You can goto http://search.justdial.com and enter the key words "Fashion Designer For Ladies Wear"

The prices would be different depending on the designer.

There is a very famous elderly seamstress in Bandra West who specialises in stitching western bridal outfits, her name is Mrs Ferns or Ferens but I do not have her contact details. Her daughters are Kimberly and Shauna. Probably her daughters may have taken over the business now. If I can manage to get the contacts I will send you a message, however I do know that she is booked out most of the time and takes orders 6 months in advance. You can get all kinds of fine fabrics in Mumbai. You could try Mangaldas market near Crawford market or Gandhi Market in Kings Circle, but for what you want, Mrs Ferns would probably give you the best advice. Linking Rd in Bandra also has a good selection of fine fabrics.

Clare, I could not find Mrs Ferns contact details, but I can recommend Ann Nightingale in the UK. She is a retired health worker who custom makes wedding dresses to whatever design you prefer. Her finish is excellent and she is doing this for years. You could contact her at:

Hope you get what you want !

BTW, yesterday I saw a lot of fantastic fabric stores in the arcades opposite Globus at Hill Rd Bandra. If you are staying that side, you may want to check them out.
