Delhi-Agra(TajMahal)-Delhi: 5 persons - train / car+driver? |
|
Hi there, We are 5 persons (all adults) and would like to do a day trip to Agra from Delhi. Not sure if we should take the train route - seems troublesome as we are 5 persons & therefore might have to split into 2 cabs/rickshaws somewhere along the way... - or should we take the car+driver route? Do we save much time or money taking the car+driver route vs the train route? Or does it all come up to the same? Basically looking for a convenient, fuss-free way to see the Taj Mahal.. would like to take path of least anxiety & stress if possible... If anyone has helpful recommendations on the car+driver bit, we would be grateful. Thanks!!! |

My inlaws did a day trip to Agra recently, they were a group of 7 people. They used a company called Panicker Travels, who supplied them with a good car and driver. They took a large sized vehicle that would seat them all. I like the idea of a road trip better than a train, it is more interactive somehow.

If you are five and a day journey then even i would recommend to hire a Car. Lets say if you travel by Train you may have to opt the Shatabdi Express both ways and one way fare per head is Rs. 375 thats is overall Rs. 3750 plus your local travel expenses within Agra and that works out to Rs. 4500 or so and at this price you can hire a good Car. The only drawback travelling by car would be the jouney time which itself takes around 4hrs. but other wise there are only three places to visit in Agra. Make sure you start from Delhi max by 6am.

A word of warning. Safevoyage tours have been promoting themselves posing as tourists in different topics. Do not fall for those fake reveiws.

Take the car. Strongly advised. Please take in consideration the time you take to reach the station and wait for the train. With car, you can do Fatehpur sikri in one day - not possible if you take the train or atleast very difficult. I suggest take Innova. Should cost about Rs. 9 to 10 thousand.

Thanks to Deepa,Ratna for the info! I think we will definitely stick to the car+driver option. Now we are thinking if we should stay one night in Agra? A 4 hr drive up to Agra would already be quite tiring for the driver so maybe its advisable to give him an overnight rest and drive back the next day instead of driving back the same day? I'm not sure what the condition of the roads are like but safety would be of upmost priority for us. We aren't really interested to see anything else besides the Taj Mahal in Agra so we had thought that we could do just a day trip but we are just not sure if the driver should be driving 8 hrs in a day? Or is it something that drivers in India are used to? Also brave1, thanks for keeping out the dubious unsolicited contributions here! these forums have been a great help for genuine travellers and hopefully these unwanted posters will stop so we can get genuine trustworthy advice & recommendations from fellow travellers only.
