Morocco Tours,Holiday in Morocco

My 3 sisters visiting Morocco in summer ,they want to visit some imperial cities ...medina...sahara desert ..riding a camel and spend one or maybe 2 nights in the desert.

As they are traveling to Morocco for the first time , i have looked for a company who offers private tours .

Is it safe to go to the sahara desert in summer or not ?

To visit the sahara desert and imperial cities how many days we need ?

We are thinking to book one of this Morrocan tours: www.Morocco-Excursion.com/index.html ...which itinerary do you reccommend ?

Pls i need your help

Thanx for everyone

I have been in the desert twice. Both times in the early Fall. The first time I stayed in the desert during the day as I wanted to really experience the heat. It was so very hot! I ended up wetting towels every 30 minutes and placing them on my face while I covered myself with a sheet to keep the flies off me and tried to sleep to pass the time. Needless to say...I didn;t do it a second time. I went back onto the village and came out after the sun was starting to set for the second day. I traveled the first day with one other tourist. The second day with 3 people from the same group who only spoke spanish so i could not converse with them.

I am a women who traveled there alone as well. I had traveled the world before, and third world countries so I felt I was aware of many things to promote safety. I would be happy to share some things if you want to write me a message.

In reference to the 100% Berber proceeds---- Most nomads that take you into the desert also receive the 100% of the proceeds. It is their livelihood. It is their ability to buy food for themselves to eat, maintain their family. Picking a Nomad desert trip depends on these things, IN MY OPINION: (notice I said my opinion)

How many people do you want in your caravan, dinner table, drum circle or fire circle, going to the bathroom behind the tent with you? or maybe using a toilet dug in the sand?

Do you want a tent that has a private commode area?

Do you want to hear many languages within your group?

Do you want to be part of a group that services a hotel, guesthouse or b and b?

Most prices depend on those questions.

More people...less expensive....

Be aware that the King/Government taxes these people to do this service for you. It is a hefty price for them and because they are a seasonal job the price they charge has to feed the camel 365 days a year and feed their family. Consider tipping the guide. Consider bringing a gift for their family if you happen to be by a duty free shop and you are buying something for yourself. These people have very little but are very happy. You will have a great trip whoever you go with.

It is always safe if you use common sense in this world.

You can definitely go to Hassi labied or other areas and view the desert from a SUV but I would not advise a camel trek. I would never go there and plan a camel trek in the summer due to the heat. I do not think that physically you are safe due to hydration and heat stroke. I would also check when Ramadan lies in this summer calendar.

A reminder:

The Holy Month of Ramadan falls between the 9th/10th of July until the 8th/9th of August. (The latter dates are more likely here in Morocco.)

Hi Herman M,

Of course it is "safe" as long as you drink 8 plus litres of water a day (take loads of bottled water with you). It's all about keeping yourself well hydrated and how you cope with heat.
