How to get to Ko Tao?

We're thinking of going to check out the beaches in Ko Tao or Koh Phangan.

Pls advice how to get there by ourselves w/out joining tours.

We just want to sit on the beach & enjoy the water.

We're here in Le Murraya Hotel, Bophut.

Thanks a million.

Just hop on the Lomprayah Ferry from either Maenam (8am and 12.30pm) or Nathon and head there. Lomprayah also run day trips there and to Koh Nang Yuan (great for snorkelling) adjacent to Koh Tao. Takes approximately 1 hr 45 minutes. Your hotel or any travel agency can book it for you or you can turn up at Maenam Pier and book on the day.

hi Cassnu,

We reserved Seatran Discovery tickets for tomorrow's crossing to Koh Phangan. costing 800Bhtpp including hotel transfers. was told by the front desk that Seatran is better than Lomprayah.

I need to know what is a good /easier access beach in KP? how to get there? if by taxi, how much?

also, lot of taxi for hire coming back to the pier?

We just want to spend time on a beautiful clean beach doing nothing.

Pls advice. Thanks.

Hi there,

Not to worry, Seatran is fine. Actually we've started recommending them to our customers rather than Lomprayah, whose service and timeliness has dropped remarkably of late (probably what your hotel receptionist was getting at!). The Seatran boats are technically a little slower, but their customer service is definitely better, and their departures are much more likely to run to the advertiwsed schedule, so you'l probably still arrive on KP ahead of the Lomprayah anyway!

Another advantage of the Seatran is they do taxi transfer to anywhere on the island for 100THB (200THB with Lomprayah!), so if you have a beach in mind you can just add that on when checking in at the pier then you have no need to pay for a taxi. You should be able to arrange pick up as well for the same fee. Beach wise, many people like Mae Haad beach for swimming and snorkelling. Salad beach is also nice but very shallow.

Hope that helps :)
