I spent 3 months on Phi Phi following the tsunami in 2004, most of my time being spent in the area around Garden Home. We stayed just above where Garden Home is now situated and got to know Bao (Garden Home's owner), who lost everything in the tsunami (including 6 of his staff). Having been back 3 times since then, the restaurant and accommodation have continued to improve with Bao and his talented team working tirelessly to improve the service.
Of all the places I stayed on Phi Phi, this was my favourite. Gorgeous bungalows with hand-carved brickwork, bathrooms that make you feel as though you are in a tropical jungle, wonderfully helpful staff and -the most important thing I believe- a quiet spot on this very busy and frequently very noisy little island.
I would highly recommend the food at the Garden Home Restaurant (just before you reach Viewpoint) - fresh, delicious and well-priced.
I wouldn't stay anywhere else on Phi Phi. Be sure you don't mistake Garden Home with others that are named very similarly (Garden Inn isn't the same place).
