14 hour delay, noon arrival, would mean a 2 a.m. departure. What airline? When we were at GRU last week, I saw SAA departure to Joburg at about 6 p.m. Quite a schedule change. Are you perhaps taking Ethiopian Airlines via Lome and Addis? I think that departs after midnight.
I thought there was a max number of hours one could spend in transit and still not need a visa. I guess you've confirmed you'd be within that? I don't know what you would do until 2 a.m. If you can get into airline clubs, and international biz class should do that, though that can vary by airline, that could give you some comfort for a few hours.
I find GRU rather antiquated and not terribly comfortable, but I've been in worse. SP's official pop may be 11 million, but I think 24 (or at least 18) may be accurate for the real population for the greater metro area.
You don't have Brazilian visas and would rather not get them, right? No airport visas given, so if you need a visa you must get it before getting on the plane at home.
