“Garota de Ipanema”—Roberto Carlos & Caetano Veloso:
I, personally, would rank it above "Yesterday" for style even if it doesn't match the previously noted song's number of recordings; but that's just me.
My all-time favorite version is the Astrud Gilberto, Stan Getz rendition which I always manage to listen to just before landing in Rio...it gets me into the Bosa Nova / Carioca spirit.
And another classic take on this famous song performed by Sinatra and Jobim:

I certainly agree with George B. about its ranking and the Gilberto/Getz rendition, but the Sinatra/Jobim version, which I just heard for the first time, really knocked my socks off. Truly wonderful.
La Garota de Ipanema Restaurant was named after the hit song because “The Girl from Ipanema” was written there. It’s a great place for lunch or just kicking back with a caipirinha, the national cocktail of Brazil made with cachaça (sugar cane rum), sugar, and lime.
Caipirinha is the diminutive of caipira, which refers to someone from a rural area and is similar in meaning to hillbilly or hick—a seemingly incongruous name for what many now regard as a rather elegant drink. (La Garota de Ipanema Restaurant makes an especially good caipirinha.)
Love the song AND the restaurant! Due to its popularity, they could've just sat back and turned it into another tasteless tourist trap, but fortunately they still have pride in their food. Pricey, though, but in line with other good Rio eateries.
Amazing and historical, both duets: Chico x Caetano as well as Sinatra x Tom performing the classic!
What a pleasant issue on the week we remember Vinicius de Moraes´death, 32 years ago.
I like the song, but being recorded a lot doesn't make something good. It's safe, and of a style to suit many singers and bands. And regularly heard on Muzak-type recordings. "Done to death" can make a song one loved a nuisance.
It is one of the top tunes that "get stuck in your head"!--the beat is uncanny----I bet you are just humming the beat right now ;)
“The Girl from Ipanema” turns 50:
