New visa applications and passport renewals are in limbo after mid-level officials at more than 80 Brazilian consular outfits around the world walked off the job, having joined a world-wide strike for higher pay.
They're asking for a raise for everyone in their category to the salary of an entry-level diplomat, which would double their monthly pay. The job action began on Tuesday in Brazil's capital, Brasilia, and then spread to Brazil's diplomatic outposts in the rest of the world.
How long this will last is anyone’s guess, but I suspect it won’t go on much longer. Stay tuned.
