Panoramic points - lesser known gems |
|
Hi everybody, here's some lesser known gems in Rio which I want to share with you, feel free to add more: Panoramic points: 1) Vista Chinesa (Floresta Tijuca) 2) Mirante do Leblon (btwn Leblon and Vidigal) 3) Mirante do Morro do Leme 4) Mirante Dois Irmaos (Leblon) 4) Mirante Dona Marta 5) Parque da Catacumba (Lagoa) 6) Forte de Copacabana 7) Pista Claudio Coutinho (very close to Pao de Açucar). |
|
Nice one, bro... I didn't make it to Mirante Dona Marta this trip, but I'll be back...;-)

To the list of panoramic points, add Pico de Papagaio in the Floresta de Tijuca. The monkeys (spider and mico) in the Floresta de Tijuca are amazing to watch and almost without fear of humans. For a slice of carioca life: Quinta de Boa Vista park on a Sunday to experience carioca families relaxing together--real life among Brazilians. There is an excellent little museum with some special ethnic art treasures in the park as well, in a building that used to be a palace, and the city zoo. Urca, by the water, looks and feels very Mediterranean. Visit Forte Sao Joao. In Niteroi: Take the ferry from Praca XV and visit the museum while you're there. Niteroi local beaches are hidden gems: Itacoatiara, Camboinhas and Piratininga The view of Sugarloaf from the Forteleza de Santa Cruz in Niteroi. The view from the Parque de Cidade in Niteroi out over the bay and back toward Rio. Climb up the hill to the park from Sao Francisco beach.

Nice... Ahhh, it appears Rio's always ready for her close-up, Mr. Ro-ma! 'Brigadao once again...

Hello all For safety reasons, I would remove the Vista Chinesa from this list and add Parque da Cidade in Niteroi, but go in the morning for an awesome view of Rio. Vista chinesa, though interesting, its very isolated and there have been many thefts there lately. Its at least 1/2 hour from any police station and the area is not patrolled. Come play in Rio but play safe. cheers jose rioturist
