But I don't speak Portuguese (i.e., the language their website is in)! Any advice -- is it worth calling or will that be even more confusing. Thanks.

The Portuguese on their site isn't very complicated.

http://www.pousadadopilar.com/

Click on:

reservas=reservations

Fill out the form with:

nome = name

endereco = address

telefone = telephone number

email = email address

chegada dd/mm/aaaa = arrival day/month/year

partida dd/mm/aaaa = departurel day/month/year

and then:

enviar = send

limpar = reset

Be sure to take a phrase book and dictionary with you on your trip. Hardly anyone speaks English.
