No water falls near Ft Belvoir that I have ever known that aren't located in the O Club and made of Chocolate or Champagne!

If it's spectacular waterfalls you seek in the DC Metro area, venture to Great Falls, the Maryland side just a few scant miles off the American Legion Bridge over the Potomac on the Beltway!

The foliage isn't there yet..but will be soon, and the falls are amazing to witness any time of the year! Further, you will see rock formations more at home in Yellowstone or Grand Canyon than a scant 15 miles from the Capital! My favorite time of year to visit is actually winter when the Locks on the Tow Path are frozen and a few outlaws set out on their ice skates! Link provided below:

Was thinking of trying the Warrenton forum, but you seem like a great resource. Never heard of these falls and lived in Va. forever!! Roanoke forum posted that so far the color is not more than yellows, etc. Leaving Norfolk and driving west to the Blue Ridge, but so far not much enthusiasm so maybe a northern route is better. Thanks for keeping us informed!!

The White Oak Canyon trail, inside Shenandoah National Park, I think has several waterfalls, if you don't mind hiking on rocky trails. Wear sturdy high-topped shoes to avoid painfully turning your ankle on the countless stones that project at odd angles.
