I am planning to come to austin on nov 22 and leave on 25th with my 7 year old son.
Downtown hotels seem to expensive.Have found some in arbetoreum area for decent price. Will it be difficult to drive to downtown ,since it is thanksgiving weekend,is traffic less?
Plan to see Capitol building, bob bullock museum, children's museum, duck tour,Nature science center.

It won't be a bad drive from the Arboretum area if you can go south on Loop 1 (MoPac) using York Blvd (look at google maps). The drive up & down Mopac shouldn't be too bad. But the streets around the Arboretum shopping -- basically Capital of Texas Hwy (Loop 360) (especially the 360/183 intersection) and Braker Lane (Domain & Arbor Walk shopping centers) -- will be very congested and you'll probably end up sitting through a couple of light cycles.
This is a huge Turkey Trot race across the river from downtown on Thanksgiving Day. Otherwise all should be okay. Just find place to park by Bob Bullock and then walk from that parking spot to Capitol. Making that your first stop will be away from the race action. Then move car later to Children's Museum etc.

Have quick lunch in 2nd Street District. Lot's of order at the counter venues.
