We just came back from a Friday-Saturday night stay in Austin and had the best time. Although we go every year for the Capitol 10000, this was our first time at the Extended Stay on 6th St. -what a GREAT location (I have posted a hotel review). Finally made it to the Whole Foods Market- ate lunch there on Saturday- it truly is a fun and amazing (and decadent!) experience. And we stopped in at Katz's Deli, late night Friday night, had the munchies- loved it. Even though it was packed, the service was prompt and the food (bagel, sausages, corned beef) was good (maybe because we had the beer drinking munchies?). Ate excellent Cajun food at Jazz on 6th- I was hesitant but completely enjoyed it. Revisted McCormick and Schmicks- fabulous fish, you get what you pay for there.
For the first time, went to Esthers Follies ($25 for reserved seating)- it was sold out on Saturday night and I can see why- I laughed so much , I cried. What a creative bunch of folks.
6th St. was wild and lively as ever. We heard live music at the Blind Pig, 311, Antones- surprised that the two groups we saw at Antones were CW but very good. Had some great "sit at the bar, enjoy the scene" experiences at Little Woodrows and the Gingerman.
All in all, a great pre-holiday Austin road trip!
