Is it worth toting fish poles on a airplane to go fishing?

Is there piers for fishing on Oregon coast? How much does it cost to fish on the pier? Do you need a license to pier fish? Is there any good fishing mid Oct.?

I don't know about central or south coast, but do remember occasionally seeing people fishing from the beaches and jettys on the north coast. Here's a link to licensing regulations: …state.or.us/resources/fishing/regulations_2… I believe a one-day license costs $12.

If you do this, please report back with fish tales. Good luck!

Should be end of salmon season in October, but it's supposively a bad year. I've been fishing on the Nestucca River in September(but not this year) and when the fishing's hot, people fish along the banks at the state park near the mouth. Look on the ODFW's website for the region you want before you come http://www.dfw.state.or.us/RR/northwest/ and see whats going on.

If you fish on the jetties-be careful if the weather is nasty- and even if it isn't. :)

Oooh...looks like their stocking some of the coastal lakes with 'trophy' size trout in mid-September. I know there is a dock at Coffinberry Lake...

Hi pencar! Check out www.nwfish.com for lots of great info on fishing. Coffenbury Lake is located at Fort Stevens State Park in Warrenton, on the northern Oregon Coast. Very nice park.

There is also good sturgeon fishing in Astoria off of the dock there by the Cannery Cafe. There are not piers so to speak like you will find on the CA coast in Pismo, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Santa Barbara, etc.

My husband and daughter went on a salmon trip with Tiki Charters this summer and we are still enjoying the fruits of their labors. Happy fishing! :)

As mentioned earlier you won't find many piers. The only one I can think of in the crab dock in Winchester Bay. But most fish from the bank when the salmon are running which is right now! You have surf fishing but need some pretty big gear that would be a pain on a plane. Lots of lakes especially between Florence and North Bend. Small dune lakes that are stocked and have some nice trout. You can find anything from lakes streams and oceans. And fish from Bluegill to Sturgeon. Mid Oct. I'm not sure what will be running. Usually the steelhead startup after the salmon if we get some rain. But that will be in the rivers and streams.

As for license, as mentioned before, yes you need one. But if you get a daily license (1,2,3,4,or 7day) you get salmon/steelhead tag included. If you know what area you will be in and what type of fishing you like to do maybe I or someone else can give you more specific info.

chinookgrrrrl, you should be down here on the Umpqua. My brought in a 12lb. Silver last Thursday and 22lb. Chinnook yesterday. From the parking lot in Winchester Bay.

Guess that depends on how avid a fisher you are.

There are several piers Newport, Bandon, Winchester Bay to mention a few, but most people crab from there, though some fish, but hardly worth bringing a pole from far off place. you will need a license. even crabbing is a fee any more.

Deep sea fishing charter may be worth it if you want to fish.

DofM

Sounds like you had a great weekend!!!

Pencar-

I guess it does depend on how much you like to fish if its worth to bring your equipment.

chinookgrrrrl, I did a typo on that. I forgot the word "son" in it. He had the fun of catching them. Dad gets the job of smoking them. The good news is that at 18 now he gets to clean his own fish. lol

He is in a major crisis right now though. The spinners he used are discontinued by Luhr Jenson and he can't find them anymore. They were what my dad swore by and "Pop" was his fishing mentor and idol.
