One day stop

We will be driving from eastern PA to western OH in July. We would like to break up the drive for the kids with a stop somewhere around Akron. Could someone please give me ideas of places to stop for a few hours? We really love history but enjoy many other attractions. Our children range in age from toddler to preteen. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Downtown Akron can be tricky to navigate but we have taken our niece's (6-14) to the Inventor's Hall of Fame and they had a blast. The top floors did not hold their interest but the bottom floor has a hands on area and after two hours of playing and exploring we still had trouble tearing them away.

Another idea is to make your stop a 1/2 hour before Akron. It's a little bit off the highway (maybe 15-20 minutes) but the park is an absolute ton of fun for hiking with caves and lots of nooks and crannies for the kids to run around and explore. Here's a link to a page on the park www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/parks/nelsonk.htm

Good luck!

You may want to visit the Cuyahoga Valley National Park located mostly in Summit County. The park follows much of the old Erie Canal and has a wonderful "Tow Path" that follows along the Cuyahoga just like the old boats did. Here is the website:

They have hiking and lots of activities in areas throughout the park.

Agree CVNP is a great stop...not sure why I did not mention it since I lived five minutes bike ride from it.
