Sailing Bodrum v Marmaris

HI

I'm planning a one week sailing trip in Turkey with friends and need help deciding whether to sail from Bodrum or from Marmaris/Gocek as the suggests itineraries from the different ports are quite different.

We are in our early 30s and are looking for am itinerary that would include islands where there is a bit of nightlife.

Suggestions appreciated.

Thank you

The Turkish islands are mostly small and quiet, with nightlife concentrated in Bodrum and Marmaris, with restaurants and limited nightlife in Gocek.

The Bodrum area has experienced a lot of new building in the past decade and much of the area is lively. Plenty of places to visit, with more challenging sailing out towards Datca. Rhodes is close but probably not permissible on a chartered boat.

Gocek is in the same bay as Fethiye where there is some night life. The bay a good sailing area for short distances, with restaurants on many of its twelve islands. Most have lazy lines to make life easy. Olu Deniz, Kalkan, Kos and Kokova are all within reach and provide great variety.

Winds are often stronger in July-August, sometimes too strong if the Meltemi is blowing. At any time of year, allow at least one day when there'll be little wind.
