Well, some supermarkets have started selling cloth bags some time ago. I believe Rustans and SM do. I can only salute Manila for imposing such rule. I hope it's gonna be enforced. Places like Bacolod does as far as I know.

Majority of cities in Metro Manila and many others in the provinces are imposing plastic ban since 2011. Tourists don't need to bring anything when shopping as paper bags are plenty and they are being used by all shops.

@ Q-Cuppster: Unfortunately Manila has no plans yet to ban plastic bags.

Paper bags S@ck if you carry frozen items. As noted, green reusable bags are sold now.

Two nights ago, the 7 11 in Ayala Avenue makati had a sign saying that as a result of a city ordinance, plastic bags would no longer be provided from 20 June 2013.

in pasig, they have already in place a no plastic bag policy since a year or 2 ago. In those home depot like CW Home stores, they are using paper bags. However, the paper bags does not have the handles you have with plastic bags.

Paper bags are being used by 711, Robinsons, SM, Puregold, Gaisano and other retail stores like Bench, Marks & Spencer, Forever 21 etc.

If you would buy like 12 bottles of beer and 12 cans of SPAM at 711 or SM then they will put those items in a box instead as obviously a paper bag is not that strong enough for heavy items.

The law banning plastic bags and styrofoam are being enacted by individual cities/towns. Quezon City and Makati lag behind other cities like Muntinlupa and Las Pinas which were plastic bag-free for more than 2 years ago already. While the cities of Manila, Paranaque and Valenzuela have no plans yet to ban plastic bags.

Fastfood chains McDonald's, Jollibee and KFC don't use plastic cups, styro packaging and plastic bags anymore even in Manila.
