Does anyone have information on booking tours in K.L.? We would like to book trips while we are there rather than before we leave our home. Are the prices the same either way?

Personally in Asia in particular it is nice to get a really nice driver to take you around privately as it is more personalised and you don't sit for hours on a bus while some annoying somebody is running 20 minutes late in the gift shop and you are being taken to another tourist stop to get riped off.

Have a look at www.virtualmalaysia.com. THis site has contacts of travel agents around malaysia who might be able to assist you with your tour. Alternatively, hopping onto a taxi is just as convenient. Most hotels have tour desk which can be booked prior to your departure. Contact the hotel directly and all can be arranged.

The price should be the same. You can book with the tour desk in a hotel too. If you are looking for a private tour, I know of some guys who do a good job and reasonable too.

Hello Carla123 and Durianman - if you have info on drivers in KL could you please let me know? I assume these people are professional and insured to do this job. Thanks.

We've travelled individually and did only a couple of tours (day trip to the Elephant Sanctuary in Kuala Gandah from KL and a 3 day tour to Kenyir Lake from Kuala Terrenganu). The first was organized through the tourist information, the other one trough a travel agency called Ping Anchorage. It's pretty easy to get everything organized when there and I think it's either cheaper or the same price.

Just a thought but you may find it is just as easy to get to the main attractions yourself rather than paying for a tour. When in KL recently we went to places like the Genting Highlands, Batu Caves and Templer Park all using either bus or taxi. That way we were free to make our own schedule. It will probably end up cheaper too. Get a copy of the lonely planet malaysia book - it has all the details of how to get to various places using public transport etc. have a good time!

Ping Anchorage offers many different tours around KL. You can contact them by calling 03-42808030 or visiting the web site here. They have offices in KL and Terengganu.
