mobile phone network

Hi all.. this question may be odd but was just remindedby a kind (maybe backward) friend that Japan uses a different mobile network. If iI'm from S'pore & using a local sim card that works on 3g, can my mobile work in Osaka or do I need to loan a phone from my local vendor before going over Osaka, Kyoto & Nagoya?

Japan supports 3G/HSDPA at 2100MHz frequency , and other frequency bands.

If you have a 3G/HSDPA phone that supports 2100Mhz, it can be used in Japan. If your phone is unlocked, you can buy/rent a Japanese SIM card and use your phone in Japan.

Yup, a japanese SIM card will work fine on your phone. You may need to configure the APN settings.

I thought the Japanese sim card for visitors to rent are for data only, not for voice like a regular phone. Am I wrong?
