Kansai Airport to Tokyo

Hi

We arrive at Kansai 8.30 am and have to travel direct to Tokyo. Is it best to get Haruka train from Kansai to shin- Osaka , Then Fast train to Tokyo. Or is it best to get the train to Kyoto from Kansai then get fast train to Tokyo. Or is there a shuttle bus from Kansai to Shin- Osaka.

Thankyou for any Help.Ed and Linda

If you want to travel by rail, Ltd Exp Haruka from Kansai Airport to Shin-Osaka (or Kyoto), then Shinkansen to Tokyo (or Shinagawa) is the way to go. Depending on schedules, changing at Shin-Osaka or Kyoto does not make a difference travel time-wise.

Otherwise you might fly from KIX (or Kobe) to Tokyo Haneda.

There is no bus from KIX to Shin-Osaka.

Route 1 KIX - Shin-Osaka station or Kyoto station - Tokyo

Route 2 KIX - Narita Airport - Tokyo

Route 3 KIX - Kobe airport or Itami Airport - Tokyo

I would fly into Tokyo Haneda rather than having to take a train for an hour to get to the Shinkasen station at Shin-Osaka. The price for the Shinkansen is the same as with flights. However, there are deals to be had and more so on flights.

I've taken Starflyer (airline) on that route for a more competitive fare. But ANA and JAL will have more scheduled flights.

Flying to Haneda might be a little easier but train is only 1 change if you go to Tokyo station - plane to Haneda still leaves you to get to your hotel with similar effort. Flying would save you less than an hour.

The above is true. If you are considering trains for the benefit of economy, choose a LCC flight from KIX / Kobe / Narita instead.

Just a note about Kansai-Tokyo Haneda flights, ANA has more flights (including co-share with Starflyer). Book directly with airline to get the domestic price. Depending on your date, there is a 11:05am flight during weekends in April from Kansai airport arriving around 12:15pm at Haneda. Check out the ANA reservation site.

But KIX to NRT depart only in the evening. I only see flights to HND from Kobe an one early morning and the other evening. I don't see any flight UKB to NRT. Which airline flies this route?

I don't think there are any discount flights from Kansai to Haneda, but you can find to Narita. This will add more train travel time as Narita is outside of Tokyo. Nevertheless, check out Jetstar and AirAsia Japan. There are some great deals to be had. The only pain is that they allow only 15kg max for luggage (at least for Jetstar). The charge is 1,000 yen but if your luggage weighs more it becomes quite expensive, however.

That flight allows you to get to Tokyo station at 13:19 if you can get from plane to monorail in 20 minutes. By train you can arrive at Tokyo station at 13:26 with only a change in shin osaka and departing KIX at 9:46, likely possible. 10:16 departure gets you there still before 2:00 so unless the flight is less money it isn't exactly otherwise beneficial as it isn't really significantly easier when you consider getting to the final destination.
