Train Pass - Will be in Tokyo and Kyoto for 11 Nights Total

Hello…we are headed to Japan in December. We plan to fly into Narita and stay at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo. We will stay for 7 nights and will plan on doing day trips outside of Tokyo. Afterwards, we will head over to Kyoto for 3 nights by train.

We will then head back to Tokyo for 1 night (by train) before heading back to Narita to catch our flight back San Francisco.

Given the length of stay and day trips we will be taking, is there a Train Pass that should consider to get a better deal?

Appreciate any help. Thank you.

Where do you plan to reserve your hotel on the final day? In Tokyo or Narita city?

7 day JR pass will probably give you some discount, compared to standard tickets. Your hotel on the final day will affect on which date you should activate JR Pass.

The 7-day pass is about break-even on the Tokyo-Kyoto round trip. Activate it on Day 5.

For your arrival and stay in Tokyo - www.jreast.co.jp/e/suica-nex/index.html - should be considered. Get the one-way version. You can use the JR pass on NEX for the return to NRT on your last day.

Remember, a JR pass is based on a calendar day - not a 24 hour period.

We are headed to Tokyo & Kyoto in December and was hoping for suggestion on Train/Subway/Bus Passes.

We will arrive in Haneda International Airport on the 15th (late at night). We plan to take the Monorail to Hamamatsucho then taxi to our hotel (Grand Hyatt). We will be in Tokyo until the 21st. While in Tokyo, we would like to take day trips to nearby town. On the 21st, we would take the train to Kyoto to spend 3 nights. We will head back to Tokyo on the 24th via train for one night staying at the Hyatt Regency. We fly home on the 25th from Narita.

We are hoping for suggestions on best package for Train and Subway passes including high speed train to Kyoto. Thank you.

See your other post, though the suggestions are the same. tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g298184-i861-k5819…

As a rule, passes within Tokyo don't tend to save you money. In Kyoto a bus pass may help, but buses are slow and taxis are plentiful and not all that expensive so we regularly use taxis in Kyoto.
