Does anyone know about the hotel station kyoto? we want to stay at a moderately priced hotel or ryokan in kyoto. We'll be in kyoto for 3 nights. should we take location over ryokan experience. then we're off to tokyo. good hotels in tokyo? or should we stay at a ryokan in tokyo?

snoozles,

When will you go to Japan? How many people are you traveling with? How much would you like to spend for a hotel/ryokan per night (or per person)?

Generally speaking, there are more hotels rather than ryokans in Tokyo. If you want to stay in a ryokan, I’d recommend to find a ryokan in Kyoto, if possible.

Thanks for responding. I'm travelling with another female. We're both in our 30's. I'd like to spend $60-80/person. Any good ones for that price?

Thanks.

And good restaurants?

snoozles, when will you go to Japan??? It's important to know it because hotel/ryokan pricing would fluctuate more in Kyoto, depending on high/low seasons. For instance, you may have more room selections in Kyoto during Feb, but not so many rooms left around the end of March & April.

The hotel rates are more steady in Tokyo.

snoozles,

>>> we'll be there the end of March. 28-31 <<<

Have you checked out “Hotel Station Kyoto-West”? Hotel Station Kyoto and Hotel Station Kyhoto-West are owned by the same company, but Hotel Station Kyoto-West is newer and slightly closer to/from Kyoto Station. Although Kyoto will be pretty crowded at the end of March, it seems that Hotel Station Kyoto-West still have both Japanese and Western style rooms left, with a private toilet/bath at 12,000/room from 3/28-3/31. I’d recommend that you send e-mail Hotel Station Kyoto-West if you haven’t. Please go to

http://www.kid97.co.jp/st-kyoto/nishi.html

If you’d like to stay in a ryokan in Kyoto, please try “Hatoya Zuihokaku” (ハトヤ瑞鳳閣), which is also located near Kyoto Station, about 3-5 minute walk. I believe they still have Japanese style rooms left for 3/28-3/31, starting about 7,000yen/person with breakfast. Please check out

“Shimizu” is another inexpensive ryokan near Kyoto Station. I’d usually recommend Shimizu, but am not sure whether they are sold out for 3/28-3/31. Please check out the following sites, and contact Shimizu if you are interested in.

There are many good restaurants around Kyoto Station! :-)
