Will we be too late if came to Kyoto on the weekend of 1 & 2 Dec? Tokyo-guide.com says that for koyo viewing, Tofukuji & Eikando temples are best from mid to late Nov. Does anyone know what the leaves are doing this year? Thanks!

Leaves still keep a shade of green in the Kansai area, but I heard on TV yesterday that the peak autumn colors for tourist venues in the Japan Alps will be next week. Taking that into account, one would say the peak season in Kyoto will be early to mid November. But who knows... Oops, TV said just now that the peak in Hachimantai Akita is drawing near. Maybe a lot of places' peak in the northern part of Honshu Island is in the offing.

Would you be able to keep us updated please.

I am arriving in Kyoto 21st Nov and planne dthis trip for the autumn foliage. If it peaks early, I'll be so dispapointed.

Ok, I'll keep a careful eye on the condition. It may possibly be hard for you to pick and mix, but many, if not most, of the venues will be still fine, I guess.
