Advice on Awaji Island

Hi There

I'm planning a trip to Awaji Island in Nov 08 with my 2 girls aged 4 and 7. Staying at the Westin Awaji. Would appreciate any advice regarding:

1. Car rental in Awaji Island itself / Ease of driving in Awaji

2. Any recommended attractions for kids in particular

Thanks so much!

Main attraction of Awaji Island is flowers, Akashi Kaikyo National Government Park is a must, www.awajihanahaku.or.jp/hanasahiki_new.htm

Hokudan-cho Park is the memorial park for the 1995 Kobe earthquake; north Awaji Island was the epicentre. www.nojima-danso.co.jp

2 magnificant bridges on either ends of the island; Michi no Eki Awaji park has spectacular view of Akashi Kaikyo Bridge which links the island with Maiko in the mainland Honshu. In the south the Onaruto-Bashi Bridge links Awaji with Shikoku. Without going over to Naruto, you can go to Fukura Port in Nandan (the southernmost town in Awaji) for a boat tour to see the Naruto-no-Uzishio Whirlpools.

For kids, there is a monkey park south of Sumoto. Onokoro Awaji World Park is near the Koshien ferry terminal. Or go to English Hill for bakery hand-on experience by making your own bread.

Sorry, the website for Akashi Kaikyo National Government Park should be: www.awajihanahaku.or.jp/hanasajiki_new.htm
