The ekimaedori (avenue) is easy to spot as it will all be lite up during the white illuminations. plus its the main (as in widest) avenue running from the station all the way to Susukino, passing through Odori. Most of the big department stores are located aswell.

Sapporo's city center has a very easy-to-understand grid system. North-south refers to how many streets north or south of Odori Park, while east-west refers to how many streets east-west of Soseigawa-dori, a few blocks east of Sapporo Station. Another useful map link:

The city is a grid.

Ekimae Avenue is the main street running north-south through downtown. The West 3 block is on the east side of this avenue, and the West 4 block is on the west side of this avenue. It runs south from JR Sapporo Station (North 5) to Nakajima Park (South 9).

Odori is the main street running east-west through the downtown, along the north and south sides of Odori Park.

It starts at the TV Tower in Odori Park and runs to about West 20.

For some strange reason, when Sapporo was developed they gave the blocks numbers rather than giving the streets numbers. They almost had it.
